Bond legend Moore has agreed to be the patron of NEA 10th November 2010
From Simon Templar to James Bond, his name is synonymus with many cult characters, Sir Roger Moore has agreed to be the patron of the New Era Academy, a national examination board for young people who wish to take private graded exams in a range of dramatic techniques and disciplines.
But Sir Roger Moore is set to lend his name to a new role – a drama award of Excellence for the UK most promising young students.
The Academy's chief executive, actor Derren Nesbitt, who starred in Where Eagles Dare and The Naked Runner, said: "Because we've had such great support in the UK, we thought it would be nice to give something back and therefore decided to set up an award for the pupils with the best exams marks.
"I've known Sir Roger Moore for many years and were thrilled when he agreed to be patron of the Academy and to give his name to this award.
"Anyone who does our syllabus can enter for it, from four years of age up to 18. Awards will be given in various age categories."
