Learning Outcomes
Learners should:
- demonstrate more confidence in conveying meaning through the use of vocal techniques
- use extended and appropriate vocabulary particularly in description and comparison
- demonstrate an understanding of English
- demonstrate some background knowledge of authors and poets
Marks at this level include:
Pronunciation: 20 marks
Intonation: 20 marks
Phrasing: 10 marks
Grade 4 (15 Minutes)
Learners should:
- Read a descriptive passage of prose from a novel of their own choice. Time limit 3 minutes (20 marks)
- Speak from memory a short poem of their own choice. Time limit 2 minutes (20 marks)
- Discuss with the examiner the effective use of pause (10 marks)
Grade 5 Intermediate Medal (15 Minutes)
Learners should:
- Give a short talk on the comparison between customs and attitudes in their own country and those of the UK. Time limit 3 minutes (20 marks)
- Sight read a prose passage from a book of their own choice taken from one of the following authors:
- Michael Green
- Penelope Lively
- C.P. Snow
- J.R.R. Tolkein
- J.K. Rowling
Time limit 3 minutes(20 marks)
- Discuss with the examiner:
- their selected book and author
- the effective use of intonation (10 marks)
