Learning Outcomes
Learners should:
- demonstrate a fluent and spontaneous style of speaking English
- use well rounded and appropriate vocabulary
- demonstrate a confident sense of presentation
- show a deeper understanding of the devices of language
- demonstrate some appreciation and background knowledge of the texts, authors and poets studied
Marks at this level include:
Pronunciation: 15 marks
Intonation: 15 marks
Phrasing: 10 marks
Grade 6 Bronze Medal (20 Minutes)
Learners should:

Speak from memory a passage from a book of their own choice taken from one of the following authors:
- Fay Weldon
- Rudyard Kipling
- E.M. Foster
- Michelle Margorian

Time limit 3 minutes (20 marks)
- Speak from memory a poem written by a British poet. Time limit 3 minutes (20 marks)
- Read at sight a short passage of prose chosen by the examiner (10 marks)
- Discuss with the examiner their selected texts, author and poet he effective use of expressive speech (10 marks)
Grade 7 Silver Medal (25 Minutes)
Learners should:

Give a talk about an aspect of UK life they find:
- amusing
- annoying or

they would like to change
They should make comparisons with other countries. Time limit 3 minutes (20 marks)
- Speak from memory a poem of their own choice
- Read at sight a passage of prose chosen by the examiner and discuss the meaning of the passage (10 marks)

Discuss with the examiner:
- the poem and poet selected
- effective vocal techniques that help the speaker (10 marks)
Grade 8 Gold Medal (30 Minutes)
Learners should:

Give a structured talk on a subject of their own choice.
Bullet point notes may be used.
Time limit 4 minutes (20 marks) -
Speak from memory a Shakespearean sonnet then discuss the piece
Time limit 3 minutes (20 marks) - Read at sight a passage of prose chosen by the examiner and discuss the mood and vocabulary of the piece (10 marks)

Discuss with the examiner their experiences of:
- coping with the diversities of colloquial and formal English
- ways in which they have developed and extended their English vocabulary
- how the use of expressive speech can aid speaking and understanding (10 marks)
