Learning Outcomes
Learners should:
- aim to present work that is of a standard suitable for a public audience
- present their work with confidence, vitality and good projection
- aim for a lively, interesting and engaging performance
- demonstrate an ability to persuade an audience
- keep the use of notes minimal or unobtrusive
- present improvised speeches and reading that are fluent and vigorous
- show versatility and diversity of style within their speeches
- aim for a professional standard that demonstrates excellence in content, presentation and technique
Grade 6 Bronze Medal (20 Minutes)
Marks awarded at this grade include:
Speech: 20 marks
Learners should:

Deliver a speech on ONE of the following subjects:
- Road rage
- Traditional cooking
- It is seldom too late to achieve one’s ambition” (Disraeli)
- “No man is an island, entire of itself” (John Donne). Time limit 7 minutes (50 marks)
- Read at sight a passage of prose (15 marks)

Discuss with the examiner:
- the way to introduce a speaker
- the way to propose a vote of thanks (15 marks)
Grade 7 Silver Medal (30 Minutes)
Marks awarded at this grade include:
Speech: 20 marks
Learners should:

Either PROPOSE or OPPOSE one of the following motions (as if it were part of a debate):
- Gap years are a waste of time
- All experimentation on animals should be halted
- Professional sports people are grossly overpaid
- Banish the car. Time limit 8 minutes (40 marks)
- Deliver a short speech of not longer than 6 minutes on one of four subjects, which will be handed to the learner 10 minutes before the examination (20 marks)
- Read at sight a passage of prose (10 marks)

Grade 8 Gold Medal (40 Minutes)

- Our perception of beauty changes over time. Time limit 10 minutes (35 marks)
- Deliver a short speech of not longer than 5 minutes on ONE of THREE subjects which will be handed to the learner 10 minutes before the examination (15 marks)
- Deliver a short speech for a special occasion. Time limit 4 minutes (15 marks)
- Read at sight a passage of prose (10 marks)
