Learning Outcomes

Learners should

Marks awarded at this level:
Speech: 20 marks
Communication: 10 marks

 
Grade 6 Bronze Medal (15 Minutes)

Learners should:

  • Read at sight a passage of prose and poetry (20 marks)
  • Talk about a specific, significant or interesting place they have visited (this could be a stately home, garden, geographical or historical location, etc.).
    They should aim to persuade the examiner to visit it too. Learners must describe this place in detail and be prepared to answer the examiner’s questions.    (30 marks)
  • Discuss with the examiner:
    • ways in which we can make our speech persuasive
    • situations in which this could be used effectively (20 marks)
 
Grade 7 Silver Medal (15 Minutes)

Learners should:

  • Read at sight a passage of prose and poetry (20 marks)
  • Talk for 5 minutes about the career they wish to follow (30  marks)
  • Discuss with the examiner:
    • points arising from the talk
    • the ways in which effective vocal communication can help in their chosen career and in the work environment generally (20 marks)
 
Grade 8 Gold Medal (15 Minutes)

Learners should:

  • Read at sight a passage of prose and poetry (20 marks)
  • Present:
    • an appeal on behalf of a favourite causeor
    • a convincing argument to further an idea. Time limit 4 minutes (30 marks)
  • Discuss with the examiner:
    • points arising from the talk
    • all aspects of colourful, vital and persuasive speaking (20 marks)
