Linda Cardigan FNEA, LTCL, ANEA, Cert Acting GSMD, MSTSD Linda has a long association with New Era not only as a teacher but as a student herself and also as the mother of three students. She was taught by the late Derek Sander, who for many years remained her mentor. She has taught Speech and Drama for over 30 years, and currently teaches 130 pupils at a Preparatory School in Hampshire. She spent 14 years as the Director of Drama at the school, before reducing her commitment to enable her to pursue her other drama work and to work more fully for New Era. She was for many years IAPS National Co-ordinator for Drama, which involved her in leading and supporting staff training. A member of STSD (The Society of Teachers of Speech and Drama) she is their Regional Representative for Dorset, West Hampshire and South Wiltshire. She is also a member of the STSD International Council, and also acts as their part time Press Officer. She was appointed a Director of New Era during 2006 and became Vice Chairman in July 2007. She greatly enjoys her visits to schools and examination centres as an Examiner. She was appointed Chairman in September 2008 She has published a number of articles about the teaching of Speech and Drama, and the teaching of Shakespeare, which have appeared in a range of publications, and as she says, this does at least spare her family from hearing her opinions ad nausea! Her philosophy is that Speech and Drama is a life skill; and that the teaching of it should be fun, accessible and challenging, giving students a range of rich and varied experiences in a safe environment. She believes that this then prepares and equips students with the skills and confidence they need to live and succeed in our ever changing world. She is totally committed to the development of New Era as an Examination Board that offers support, opportunity and excellence to its students and its teachers. She lists “dog training and obedience” amongst her interests, which is just as well as within her menagerie she has a lively Australian Shepherd Dog! |
