New Era Academy 2023 ~ 2026 Syllabus is now available.

Spring Launch events in London, Belfast, Online.

“The Covid Chapter” (as it is known in my house), brought with it, independence in working on one’s own. Most people I know have now completely rejected the comradery of the office environment, swapping it for the comfort and solitary quiet of home offices and Zoom calls.

LIVE EVENTS IN LONDON & BELFAST

Which is why it felt so wonderful to attend New Era Academy’s new 2023-26 Syllabus launch event in person on Sunday 2nd April’23. Face-2-face in the bustling centre of London, sharing our thoughts and experiences as Speech and Drama Teachers, and discussing new features of the 2023 – 2026 NEA syllabus with like-minded friends and colleagues.

We were joined by teachers and examiners from across London and around the globe, such as France, Sri Lanka, China, and Hong Kong. This was an informal event, where examiners and teachers could catch a first look at the new syllabus which will be active for 3 years from September 2023.

3 KEY PRINCIPLES FOR NEA’s NEW 2023-26 SYLLABUS

NEA Director and Examinations Officer Miranda Jacobs and Tina Doyle, NEA’s Chief Examiner explained how the new syllabus has been written with 3 key principles in mind to further enhance the breadth and depth of our syllabus for learners.  These 3 principles are:

CHALLENGE

The NEA syllabus challenges both students and teachers to develop and master their craft.

ACCESSIBILITY

As a global examination board, we are proud that our syllabus is and remains accessible to all students regardless of age, gender, nationality, and ability level. It is important to us that our students can embrace our syllabus, and grow their skills, expertise, and confidence.

GROWTH

We feel it is important that both students and teachers learn as they grow through the syllabus and their journey with NEA.

SHOWCASE YOUR INDIVIDUALITY – MORE CHOICE, MORE GUIDANCE

The new syllabus has been adapted to include more free choices across both Performance and Communication platforms. This allows students to present a piece that they are passionate about, to incorporate some work that they are doing at school or for a festival. The free choice also offers the opportunity for students to perform published work from their culture.

For those who prefer more guidance, the new syllabus also offers lists of poets, authors, and playwrights to give you some inspiration as to the piece that suits your student best.

Whichever path you and your students take – there is wonderful scope to showcase learning, individuality, and creativity in the examination process.

The feedback on the new syllabus was very positive, and it was such a treat to engage personally with our teachers and examiners.  We look forward to the new syllabus being examined from September 2023.

EXAMINATIONS – ONLINE and IN PERSON

Miranda and Tina confirmed that the biweekly online exam sessions would be continuing, much to everyone’s relief.

Don’t forget to book your exam sessions in advance – it really helps us to schedule our examiners for in-person exam sessions! It is easy to do with the BOOK AN EXAM DATE button on the website’s ‘Contact Us’ page.

NEA MEMBERS HUB – FOR TEACHERS & EXAMINERS

The New Era Members Hub is a dedicated, restricted access area for NEA Teachers and Examiners. Miranda provided a demonstration on how to access the NEA Hub.

In the NEA HUB, you can access useful member-only documentation such as Sight Reading purely for our member community.

The NEA HUB can be accessed from the NEA MEMBERS LOGIN button on our website header and footer. If you don’t have a login, please request membership via the JOIN US NOW! Button on our website.

NEA TEACHERS DIRECTORY – APPLY NOW

More exciting news this spring – Miranda Jacobs, announced that we will be launching the New Era Academy Teachers Directory in May 2023.  Teachers will be able to have a specific listing within the directory to advertise their services directly to parents and learners looking to study on the New Era Academy Syllabus.

The NEA Teachers Directory will be searchable and is open to all of our Teacher members. Each record on the directory will include a short description of their teaching practice alongside their Name, Business name, contact details, address & map, qualifications, #tags, and of course your photo and logo.

This is a great opportunity to showcase you, our teachers to our growing digital audience. Apply now or register your interest at exams@neweraacademy.co.uk

QUESTIONS ON THE NEW 2023-26 SYLLABUS?

It was wonderful to meet in person in LONDON and BELFAST in April.   Teachers and Examiners who have worked with NEA for many years were able to ask questions about how to bring to life the new syllabus for their students.  The bonus was that we were able to connect with new teachers at the social event that followed, but it was an opportunity for everyone to ask the team questions.

If you were unable to join us and you have questions, please get in touch at exams@neweraacademy.co.uk.
